Yes, many visitors hire cars and self-drive around the island. ๐ Do I need an International Driving Permit (IDP)? Yes. If you're driving in Bali, you should carry both your valid Australian driver's licence and an International Driving Permit (IDP). ๐ Is driving in Bali difficult? It depends on your experience and confidence. Traffic can be busy, scooters are everywhere and driving styles may be different from what you're used to in Australia. ๐ What side of the road do they drive on in Bali? The left-hand side, just like Australia. ๐ Is parking available? Usually yes, but popular tourist areas can be busy and parking may come with a small fee. ๐ Would we recommend it? For families wanting flexibility, it can be a great option. You can explore at your own pace, stop when you want and visit places that are harder to reach by taxi. ๐ What about insurance? This is a big one. Before hiring a car (or scooter) in Bali, make sure you understand what your travel insurance does and doesn't cover. Many policies have requirements around holding a valid driver's licence, carrying an International Driving Permit (IDP) and complying with local laws.
