Today we headed to the Padang Galak kite competition — and wow… what a celebration of wind, humans, and kites! Some of these beauties are bigger than cars, some are longer than a soccer pitch, and some need a crew of 20–30 people just to get them in the air. This isn’t just for fun — in Bali, kite flying is a centuries-old tradition. The big competitions, like today’s in Padang Galak, are part of the seasonal celebrations thanking the gods for good harvests and blessings. Teams from all over Bali come together with handcrafted kites — some taking months to build — competing for the best launch, design, and flight.
