The Great Tortoise Mix-Up: Our Hilarious Bali Pet Swap Story
🐢 Pet swap chaos meets parent fail in Bali 🤦♀️ What started with “don’t worry, your tortoise is just sleeping” turned into a full-on tortoise transformation story. From Twig to Mega Twig, enjoy story time with one VERY different-looking tortoise. #ParentFail #BaliLife #FamilyChaos #TortoiseTok #BaliFamilyFinds
Traveling through Bali with kids promises adventure, but sometimes, that adventure shows up wearing a different shell—literally.
Meet Twig, our daughter's beloved tortoise and the star of our latest #ParentFail. When we left for Ubud, we arranged a harmless little pet swap with another expat family. "Don’t worry," they said, "your tortoise is just sleeping." Cue suspicious side-eyes and daily pokes to confirm ‘sleeping’ status. But truly, nothing seemed off—until it really was.
Fast forward a week and Twig (or so we thought) came home... but something didn’t quite fit. Our daughter noticed first: “Why is Twig three times bigger? And why does he keep trying to escape the garden?”
Turns out quirky Bali coincidences strike when you least expect. We had received the wrong tortoise—Mega Twig, if you will. A full-blown tortoise impersonator: different shell pattern, turbo-speed energy (relatively speaking), and a total disregard for our lettuce.
Between panicked WhatsApp messages and exchanging tortoise portraits (yes, we now take headshots of our reptiles), we finally solved the Great Tortoise Mix-Up. Twig returned from his surprise vacation, likely grateful to no longer live with shrieking children and suspicious salad choices.
While we may not be winning ‘Parents of the Year,’ we now have one unforgettable story tucked into our Bali memories—and a lesson in pet-sitting protocol!
Travel Tip: If you plan on a pet swap during your stay in Bali, label your tortoises (joking... but not entirely). And be ready—Bali has a way of turning even the simplest days into epic stories.
